Compare repayment frequencies

Same loan amount, rate and term. Each frequency is calculated separately — fortnightly repayments are not simply half the monthly amount.

Paying half the monthly amount every fortnight is a different, accelerated strategy: 26 half-payments equal 13 monthly payments a year. This page does not model that strategy.

Assumptions and sources

A transparent repayment model

The annual nominal interest rate is divided by 12, 26 or 52. Interest compounds at the selected repayment frequency; payments are at each period’s end. There are no extra repayments, fees, offset balances, redraws or rate changes.

For principal & interest: payment = P × r ÷ [1 − (1 + r)⁻ⁿ]. P is the outstanding principal, r the periodic rate and n the remaining payment count. At 0% interest, payment = P ÷ n.

During the initial interest-only phase: payment = P × r. Afterwards the unchanged principal is amortised over the remaining term.

An estimate, not an approval

Actual lenders may accrue interest daily, apply different repayment conventions, charge fees or change rates. This calculator does not assess affordability, borrowing capacity or loan eligibility, and is not financial advice.
